Social Media Week: Week of September 24, 2012

Happy Social Media Week!!  This week is Social Media week around the world.  The 5th-8th grade students will learn some social media basics using the following presentation:

Students:  Please give me your insight!  What social media tools that you saw in the presentation do you use? Do you use them to help with school work, for personal connections or both?  Are there any social media tools that you didn't know about that you would like to learn more about?  Do you think social media tools should be used in schools?  Please reply using your first name, last initial, and room #.

1st-3rd:
Our first and second grade students are doing an excellent job of navigating around Microsoft Word! We are going to continue to work on our cut and paste skills and squeeze in a little science as well. Students will work on cutting and pasting objects into "living" and "nonliving" things categories. An example is below:

This week I am also working with some of the primary teachers to create StudyLadder accounts where students can practice many skills related to their current curriculum.

Third grade students also made Wordles this week!  After studying plants in their homerooms we brainstormed and made a class list of all the things that were learned about plants. Students then went to Wordle.net and created their very own plant Wordles.  Each student's name is embedded in their word cloud.

Kindergarten

We are doing such a great job with ABCya and Starfall that we will continue with those sites until Study Ladder is up and running for Kindergarten students.
