Tech Lab 101

Welcome to my technology lab blog. This blog will house my technology lesson plans for the 2012-2013 school year. I didn't receive much notice that my role would change this year and I'd now become the computer lab teacher at my school. Follow along on my new journey!

I'll begin the year by focusing on Word activities for younger students and Web 2.0 activities for older students.

All lessons will tie into ISTE's NETS Standards for Students.  Click here to see the student standards.  This is a fantastic wiki full of NETS resources.  This Prezi was featured on the wiki and is a great introduction for students.

This well-established and highly respected organization has put together a series of workshops that focuses on best practices of online teaching. This winter I am working toward adding a new credential to my learning: Quality Matter's  Teaching Online Certificate . This well-established and highly respected organization has put together a series of workshops that focuses on best practices of online teaching. I have reflected on each workshop as I completed them as a way to model metacognition. This post is the final reflection, 8 of 8. I'm fortunate to be at an institution that encourages and values continuous learning. As someone who has taught graduate courses for well known universities for 15 years, I feel I have a solid grasp of online pedagogical practices. Still, part of staying relevant is continuing to grow yourself and reflect on your learning. Twenty Years is Worth Two Cents

Time It’s been an interesting year.  My twins entered middle school (time flies).  My mom died unexpectedly leaving me parentless with probate and a house built by my grandfather in 1948 (time stands still).  Oh…and CPS is shuttering my school  (time to move?). The school I’ve built my career at and spent the last twenty years with students. I sat in the library with my colleagues and was read two scripts; one by my principal and one by a Chicago Public School Central Office employee.  With that, it was done (or in the beginning phase of 'done'). Teachers were told to “have a good day of teaching and learning” (one of our daily mantras) and were sent off to teach their students after just being told our school was not remaining open after this school year but our building would remain open with a new faculty and three student bodies.   George Leland school would inhabit our building while May Community Academy and Louis Armstrong Math & Science...
